Andy Goldman found his passion for law while attending undergraduate at the California State University of Chico representing individuals pro bono in social security disability hearings through the Community Legal Information Center, (CLIC), program at Chico State.  While in law school at California Western School of Law in San Diego, California, Andy’s passion and competitive nature earned him a J.D. degree, cum laude, and seven AmJur awards.

Following law school, Andy proudly joined his family law firm, where he practices with his father Ron and sister Julia. Andy is licensed to practice law before all California state courts and the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of California. Since graduation, Andy has co-tried eight jury trials with his father Ron, seven being medical malpractice actions in which the Goldman Law Firm represented the defendant health care practitioner, and one being a plaintiff’s personal injury lawsuit in which the Goldman Law Firm represented the injured party. Of the medical malpractice actions, the most notable victories include:

  • Defense verdict for dermatologist client in a medical malpractice lawsuit in which the plaintiff experienced a necrotizing fasciitis infection after a benign dermatologic procedure. The plaintiff suffered toxic shock syndrome resulting in the loss the plaintiff’s limbs. Plaintiffs’ counsel sought an award of approximately $20 million in damages. Following 6-week jury trial, jury found that our dermatologist client complied with the standard of care, delivering a defense verdict.

  • Defense verdict for a neurologist client in a medical malpractice lawsuit where the plaintiff claimed $1.5 million in damages for an alleged failure to timely diagnose an aneurysm. The jury found that our client complied with the standard of care, delivering a defense verdict.

  • Defense verdict for a general surgeon client in a medical malpractice lawsuit where the plaintiff claimed over $1 million in damages stemming from an extended, right hemi-colectomy. The jury found that our client complied with the standard of care.

  • Defense verdict for a plastic surgeon client in a medical malpractice lawsuit related to a bilateral breast capsulectomy procedure. The jury found our client complied with the standard of care within approximately 2 hours, delivering a defense verdict following multi-week trial.

  • Defense settlement for a plastic surgeon-client in a medical malpractice lawsuit related to bilateral mastectomy and breast reconstruction surgery. The case was dismissed by plaintiffs on third day of trial after the defense cross-examination of the plaintiff’s standard of care expert.

  • Defense verdict for a periodontist client in a dental malpractice lawsuit where the plaintiff claimed the improper placement of implants in the patient’s maxilla. The jury found that our client complied with the standard of care within approximately 30 minutes, delivering a defense verdict following multi-week trial.

Andy has also successfully co-tried three bench trials with Ron, achieving the following results:

  • Plaintiff Class Action lawsuit against health care service plan, in which the Goldman Law Firm represents a putative class of approximately 550 California dentists. Preliminary bench trial on central issue to action in favor of Plaintiffs, obtained by the Goldman Law Firm.

  • Plaintiff Breach of Contract action: Judgment in favor of Plaintiff in litigation over dental practice sale in which the Goldman Law Firm represented the Plaintiff, the practice owner. Obtained judgment in excess of $336,000.

  • Medical malpractice lawsuit defending ophthalmologist related to LASIK surgery and subsequent development of glaucoma. Decision pending.

Andy has also obtained a number of settlements on behalf of his clients, most notably:

  • Obtained settlement involving multi-million-dollar residential property in Tiburon, California, whereby clients obtained title to home at substantially below market-value;

  • Obtained $400,000 settlement from an individual who drove a vehicle that crashed into the storefront of our client’s business in San Francisco, CA;

  • Obtained $400,000 settlement for client who was struck by golf ball in right eye and developed permanent vision problems;

  • Obtained $300,000 settlement for client involved in bicycle v. vehicle accident in San Francisco, CA, involving a skull fracture;

  • Obtained $225,000 settlement for client involved in bicycle v. vehicle accident in San Francisco, CA, involving a trimalleolar ankle fracture;

  • Obtained $100,000 settlement for client stemming from a purchaser of client’s dental practice who breached a covenant not to compete, entitling client to liquidated damages.

Further, through his efforts, Andy has obtained numerous dismissals on behalf of his health-care provider clients, involving complex aspects of medicine, including Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome (“CRPS”), subarachnoid hemorrhaging, aneurysms, occlusion of coronary artery following mechanical heart valve replacement, fetal distress and the monitoring of the fetal heart-rate, and many other fascinating areas of medicine.

Andy has had more jury trial experience in his first several years of practice than most attorneys experience in their entire practice careers. He couples this experience with a drive to zealously represent his clients and learn how to effectively posture each case for the very best outcome possible. Andy welcomes every opportunity to learn and improve his practice and show what he can do to maximize the result for each client one case at a time!
